Tucked away in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, communities are struggling to make ends meet. This area of the country, where the average annual earnings for a family of 4 is below $12,000, is home to some of the poorest people in the United States. With up to three times the national poverty rate, residents in this region are facing epidemics of depression, cancer, tooth loss, drug abuse and the shortest life spans in the nation. It is in these rural areas that children are facing issues that most of us can only imagine taking place in third world countries, issues including the fight to receive an education.

An increasing number of public schools in Kentucky, as well as nationwide, are requiring children to purchase school uniforms in order to attend classes. Studies have shown that uniforms allow children to focus better on their academics, but for families living in the mountains of Appalachia where 23% of children under the age of 18 live in poverty, purchasing a school uniform is an expense they cannot afford. Join the movement to make education available to these children as Got Your Back begins our newest relief efforts right here in the United States. With your help, we can help meet this need and others like it across our country.
